This must be a coincidence (after having written last week about All Nippon Airways designating one of the lavatories on each international flight as being “women only”). I was watching NGK World (which is a Japanese TV net work that also broadcasts in other countries) yesterday and they showed a short “filler” story on long-distance busses in Japan, which for reasons of price and convenience have become very popular with the traveling public.
And wouldn’t you know it? That’s right, the latest marketing gimmick is to offer “women only” busses on some of the main routes. There are of course no “men only” busses to compensate, though … the discrimination runs in one direction only.

I recently ran across an article on the Straits Times (a Singapore newspaper) website, titled “Women-only lavatory”, which reported that ANA (All Nippon Airways, a large Japanese airline) has announced that it will designate one toilet on each international flight as being “for woman-only”.
Why would they do something like that? They explained their reasoning thusly:
“… a survey of women fliers identified it [a women-only lavatory] as the second most attractive service they wished for after being offered desserts.”

Every now and then when I get bored, I’ll browse through the Wikipedia website and then click on “Random Article” to see what pops up.
Most of the time, something arcane will load (such as a write-up on “Activity-Centered Ergonomics” or on the history of some random Canadian radio station) and I’ll just click it again.
But every now and again, something interesting will pop up.
One such page I found the other day discussed the (now largely archaic) legal concept of “Breach of Promise”. I had been vaguely aware of the fact that there used to be such a thing, but it was interesting to revisit that concept in more depth.

I ran across an article in the Philadelphia Daily News titled “Spitzer’s call girl makes a point” which was written by Jenice Armstrong, a Daily News Columnist, and dated September 9, 2009.
She started by mentioning some comments made by Ashley Dupré (who had been the high-priced escort whose assignations with Elliot Spitzer had gotten him bounced out of politics — and into ignominy — when these became public).
